About the Hotel

From pencils to hospitality

When the mine at Force Crag was active, the inn was used to manufacture pencils. After the large pencil factory in Keswick was built in the 1820s, all the smaller manufacturers started to close and the site was turned in to The Coledale Inn we know and love today.

We're located just above Braithwaite Village, in a peaceful hillside position well away from passing traffic. The inn is ideally situated for touring and walking, with paths to the mountains immediately outside the hotel gardens.
